What photos did you choose to share and why are they meaningful?

I chose these photos because they capture two significant milestones in my journey at Cornell, each representing a unique aspect of my college experience. The first photo (above) holds special meaning as it depicts my excitement attending my first homecoming game. This event symbolized a sense of unity and school spirit that I had eagerly anticipated, especially after navigating the challenges of hybrid learning during my first year at Cornell. Sharing this experience with one of my closest friends added to the joy and created memories that I will always cherish.

The second photo (below) holds equal significance as it represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication as an undergraduate student. As a first-generation student, reaching the milestone of almost completing my undergraduate degree was a momentous achievement for me. It marked a significant stepping stone in my academic journey and served as a testament to my resilience and determination. Celebrating this milestone alongside my friend Fatima was particularly meaningful, as we had supported each other through the highs and lows of our college experience. Together, these photos serve as tangible reminders of the milestones, friendships, and personal growth that have shaped my time at Cornell.

How have you grown during your time at Cornell?

During my time at Cornell, I have undergone significant personal growth and transformation. Emotionally, I have developed the ability to express myself more freely and authentically. Initially, I struggled with vulnerability and found it challenging to engage in open and honest conversations with others. However, through meaningful interactions with friends and peers, I learned the importance of being transparent about my thoughts and feelings. This newfound openness not only allowed me to forge deeper connections with those around me but also fostered a greater understanding of diverse perspectives and experiences.

I have become more confident in embracing my authentic self and navigating the complexities of interpersonal relationships with courage and empathy. These experiences have taught me invaluable lessons about the power of vulnerability and the importance of cultivating genuine connections based on mutual respect and understanding. As I continue to grow and evolve, I am grateful for the journey that Cornell has afforded me and the profound impact it has had on my personal development.

What's a core memory you'll always have from your time at Cornell?

I will always remember the tradition of attending the Moonlight Breakfast during finals week. It became a cherished ritual among my friends and me to gather together, eat, and simply enjoy each other's company amidst our busy exam week. It served as a powerful reminder of the importance of leaning on others and taking breaks.

What's the one thing you'll take away from your experience?

One of the most significant takeaways from my time at Cornell is the incredible friendships I've cultivated. These connections have been instrumental in shaping my college experience. Whether it's been my close-knit group, my roommates, fellow club members, or those I've bonded with over shared interests, these relationships have been invaluable. They've provided unwavering support, valuable advice, and countless memorable moments that have made my time here truly special. Reflecting on my journey, I realize it's these friendships that have made Cornell feel like home and have left an indelible mark on my college years.

What advice would you have for new Cornellians?

Take the time to explore different interests, hobbies, and academic pursuits, even if they fall outside of your comfort zone. Don't let the fear of failure hold you back from trying new things or pursuing your passions. Remember that each experience, whether it leads to success or failure, contributes to your personal growth and development. Believe in yourself and your abilities, knowing that you are capable of achieving great things when you put your mind to it.
